SCA Library - Annual Scholastic Book Fair

November was a busy month at the SCA library.  We hosted our annual Scholastic Book Fair and met with much success once again!  Although we did not raise enough for our Vice Principal to participate in our crazy stunt/challenge we did raise over $1600 - enough to get $755.00 worth of book in our library!  The books arrived last week - watch for a list of titles and reviews to come soon! Thank you to all students and staff who helped and purchased books, school tools, posters, anti-bullying bracelets and more from the fair.  A special thank you to the book fair crew who helped with set up, posters, cash, contests and more!

CCRSB Teen Reader's Choice Award

Don't forget about the CCRSB Teen Reader's Choice Award announced via our SCA Live morning announcements  Interested students in grades 7-12 are invited to nominate their favorite book for the award.    Nominations must be in by December 16th.  All nominations will be considered to create a shortlist of ten books.  The ten books chosen will be made available at each participating CCRSB library.   Teens are encouraged to read these top ten books when they are chosen and discuss them with their peers in school and via an online forum.  After students have a chance to read and discuss these books, students can vote on their choice from the top ten books.  All voters will be invited to an awards ceremony where the winning book will be announced.   Here is your chance to check out what others are reading, celebrate a love of reading, and see if your favorite book is up for the challenge!

The "Man in Motion" himself  Rick Hansen was here at our school in Brookfield today! Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Man in Motion tour one of SCA students Katie Prest was a medal bearer along with a local hockey team the Stewiacke River Rats. SCA student council members presented Rick Hansen with a plaque commemorating his visit and Rick himself spoke with middle school students and staff outside the school with with his trademark inspiring words Anything is Possible - before setting off to the continuing festivities in Truro - but not before donating a signed copy of his book Man in Motion to the SCA library! What an exciting day meeting such an inspiring man!

The SCA library is a vibrant, welcoming learning space that is equipped with valuable resources, both technology and text based, to assist, encourage, and support students in becoming independent learners and discriminating users of information. As an integral part of the school’s learning outcomes the library provides and supports learning opportunities that challenge life long learners to utilize information effectively whether in the library, classroom or at home as we evolve from a collection based facility to an accessed based service.
